Product Description:

The Pom Pom Crab (Ptychognathus barbatus) is a captivating and unique freshwater crustacean that brings both beauty and functionality to any aquarium. Known for its distinctive appearance, this small crab has small filaments on its claws, resembling pom-poms, which give it its charming name.

Key Features:

1. Unique Appearance: The Pom Pom Crab stands out with its eye-catching fuzzy claws.

2. Peaceful Nature: Pom Pom Crabs are generally peaceful and can coexist well with a variety of tank mates. They are an excellent addition to community tanks, adding diversity and interest without causing harm to other inhabitants.

3. Algae Control: These crabs help keep your tank clean by feeding on algae and detritus. Their scavenging habits contribute to the overall health and cleanliness of the aquarium.

Care Instructions:

  • Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 5 gallons is recommended. These crabs are small and can thrive in nano tanks as well as larger setups.

  • Aquarium Setup: Provide plenty of hiding spots using rocks, driftwood, and aquatic plants. A well-planted tank with lots of nooks and crannies will help them feel secure.

  • Feeding: Pom Pom Crabs are omnivores and should be offered a varied diet. They will eat algae, detritus, and can be supplemented with sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, and protein sources like bloodworms or brine shrimp.

  • Water Parameters: Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature range of 72-78°F (22-26°C), pH between 6.5-7.5, and hardness between 5-12 dGH. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential for their health.

  • Tank Mates: Suitable tank mates include small, peaceful fish and shrimp. Avoid housing with aggressive species or large fish that may see the crabs as prey.

Difficulty: Easy to moderate, suitable for aquarists with some experience.

Maximum Size: The Pom Pom Crab grows up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) in body width.
