Mystery Snail Assorted is a popular and captivating freshwater snail known for its wide variety of colors and patterns. These snails are highly valued in aquariums for their ability to clean algae, detritus, and leftover food, making them an excellent addition to both community and planted tanks.

Description:

Common Name: Mystery Snail

Scientific Name: Pomacea sp. (commonly Pomacea canaliculata, but available in multiple species)

Family: Ampullariidae

Size: Up to 2 inches (5 cm)

Coloration: Assorted colors, including gold, blue, black, and purple, as well as various patterns. Each snail’s coloration can be unique.

Native Region:

Mystery Snails are native to South and Central America, primarily found in slow-moving streams, rivers, and ponds. They have been bred in captivity to develop a variety of color morphs.

Aquarium Setup:

Tank Size: Minimum 5 gallons for one snail; larger tanks are preferred if keeping multiple snails or other tank mates.

Substrate: Soft, smooth substrates such as fine gravel or sand are ideal to prevent damage to their delicate shells.

Plants and Decor: Live plants, driftwood, and rocks. Ensure there is enough space for the snails to graze and move freely.

Water Parameters:

Temperature: 68-82°F (20-28°C)

pH: 7.0-8.0 (neutral to slightly alkaline)

Hardness: 6-12 dGH (moderately hard to hard water)

TDS (Total Dissolved Solids): 150-250 ppm

Care Level:

Difficulty: Easy; suitable for beginners

Diet: Omnivorous; feeds on algae, detritus, plant matter, and leftover food. They may also appreciate occasional calcium-rich foods to help maintain shell health.

Behavior: Slow-moving and peaceful; they typically stay on the substrate or plants, using their radula to scrape algae and biofilm off surfaces.

Additional Tips:

Tank Mates: Mystery Snails are peaceful and can coexist with most fish and invertebrates. However, avoid keeping them with predatory fish that may nip or eat them.

Breeding: Mystery Snails lay egg masses above the waterline, which can be removed or left to hatch. Breeding requires both male and female snails.

Maintenance: Regular water changes are essential to maintain water quality, especially since snails produce waste.
