Family: Euphylliidae

Temperament: Aggressive (very long sweeper tentacles, especially at night)

Difficulty: Moderate

Native Habitat & Distribution:

Galaxea corals are found throughout the Indo-Pacific, typically on reef slopes and lagoon areas with moderate water movement. They often grow in open areas where their long sweeper tentacles can effectively defend territory.

Aquarium Care & Setup:

Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C)

pH: 8.1–8.4

Salinity: 1.024–1.026

Lighting: Moderate (75–150 PAR); adapts to slightly higher light with acclimation

Flow: Moderate; enough to keep tissue clean but not so strong that tentacles remain retracted

Placement: Mid to lower rockwork with significant spacing from other corals

Care Tips & Feeding:

• Feeding: Photosynthetic but benefits from supplemental feeding of mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or coral foods 1–2 times per week

• Growth Pattern: Branching or encrusting colonies with star-shaped polyps

• Tankmates: Compatible with peaceful reef fish and invertebrates; avoid placing near other corals

• Behavior: Extends extremely long sweeper tentacles at night, capable of stinging corals several inches away

Are Galaxea corals easy to keep?

They are moderately hardy but require careful placement due to their aggressive behavior.

What lighting do Galaxea corals need?

Moderate lighting (75–150 PAR) is ideal for healthy growth and coloration.

Do Galaxea corals need feeding?

They are photosynthetic but benefit from occasional feedings of meaty foods.

Where should I place Galaxea corals in my tank?

Mid to lower rockwork with plenty of space around them to prevent stinging nearby corals.

How fast do Galaxea corals grow?

Growth is moderate, with colonies slowly expanding over time.

Are Galaxea corals aggressive?

Yes, they are highly aggressive and produce very long sweeper tentacles, especially at night.
