Convict Cichlids are a species of cichlid native to the lakes and streams of Central America. They're named for their vertical black and light gray striping, which resembles the classic prisoner uniform.
Convict Cichlids grow to a size of 5 inches, and should be kept in a tank of 30 gallons or larger, though aggression tends to be more severe in smaller tanks. Known for being quite an aggressive species, it's best to keep them with other South and Central American cichlids of similar size and temperament. They prefer soft and acidic water, but they are highly adaptable.
Convict Cichlids aren't picky eaters, and will readily accept most prepared pellet or flake foods.
