The Blue Streak Cleaner Wrasse, often simply called the Cleaner Wrasse, is a fascinating example of symbiosis in nature, and in the home aquarium. They're widely known for setting up cleaning stations on the reef, which are visited by fish of all sizes to have parasites and dead skin removed by these industrious cleaners. They'll often enter the mouths and gills of much larger, usually predatory fish to give them a thorough cleaning.

Care

Cleaner Wrasse grow to about 5.5 inches long, and are very active swimmers, requiring a tank of 90 gallons or more. They're generally peaceful, and can be kept in groups of the same species, and will assist in keeping their tank mates clean, though they aren't an effective treatment for ich which is often claimed as the parasite lives just under the skin. Due to their dietary needs, these fish are considered medium to difficult to keep. They have very small stomaches, and are unable to eat large meals, so must be fed small meals multiple times per day. This can be somewhat mitigated by having a large number of tankmates to clean.

Diet

Cleaner Wrasse aren't picky eaters, and will eat most meaty frozen foods, though they should be offered multiple meals per day due to their small stomachs and active lifestyle.
