The Peacock Gudgeon, also sometimes mistakenly called the Peacock Goby despite not being a true goby, is a beautiful and uncommon fish that displays a rainbow of coloration. Their base coloration is blue gray, punctuated by irregular vertical red bars across the body and fins. Their bellies and and rims of their tails also have splashes of vibrant yellow. Sex can easily be determined in mature individuals by observing the nuchal hump on the forehead of males and a black outline on the fins of females.

Care

Peacock Gudgeons are a hardy species, growing up to 3" long, and may be kept in aquariums as small as 15 gallons due to their fairly inactive lifestyle. They prefer to be kept in groups of 6 or more in a heavily planted and decorated tank, which they use to escape into for cover when stressed. These fish are known jumpers, so it's important to either cover the tank, or leave a couple inches from the rim on rimless setups. They're a peaceful species, though occasional harmless sparring may be observed between males. They are likely to eat dwarf shrimp like Cherry and Crystal shrimp, so it's best to keep them with larger invertebrates.

Diet

Peacock Gudgeons have a reputation for being picky eaters. It's recommended to offer them meaty frozen and live foods, though they will adapt to prepared foods over time.
