Cardinal Tetras are an iconic species of small, brightly colored red and blue tetra that are often confused with the slightly smaller neon tetra. They can be easily differentiated by looking at the lower red band of color. On the neon, this band only extends halfway across the body, while the cardinal displays red from nose to tail.

Care

Cardinal Tetras grow to 2 inches, and should be kept in schools of 6 or more in aquariums of 20 gallons or larger. They are active swimmers, and will usually be found in open water, though they prefer to have plant cover to escape into should they feel threatened. Cardinal Tetras generally prefer soft and acidic water. They are a very peaceful species, and shouldn't be kept with larger more aggressive species which my prey on them.

Diet

Cardinal Tetras aren't picky eaters, and should readily accept prepared flake or pellet foods in addition to frozen or live options.
