Cerith Snail - Cerithium sp.

Cerith Snails are a staple clean up crew member in the marine aquarium hobby. They're notable for their small size and their tightly spiraling, long spiked shells, and spend most of their time burrowed under the sand where they help prevent the formation of anoxic zones. They're mostly nocturnal, and will come out at night to graze on uneaten food and algae.       

Care

Cerith Snails grow to about 1.5", and are are great not only for algae control in tight areas, but for keeping the sandbed aerated. Like all inverts, they cannot tolerate copper, and are sensitive to sudden changes in parameters, so a drip acclimation is important.   

Diet

Cerith Snails come out at night to forage on algae and detritus found on the aquarium sand. They do not require supplemental feeding.
