Cyphastrea corals, commonly referred to as "Cyps" in the reef-keeping hobby, are large polyp stony (LPS) corals that belong to the family Merulinidae that come in a dazzling array of colors. These corals are known for their encrusting growth form, with closely spaced corallites (the skeletal structures housing the polyps) that give them a distinct appearance. These corals thrive under low to medium lighting, and moderate flow.
