Thick Lipped Gouramis are a relatively small and peaceful species of gourami that make an excellent member of any community tank. They're native to still waters in Southern Myanmar, and prefer soft and slightly acidic waters, though they're adaptable to most conditions. Their comical name comes from the oversized puckered lips they develop when mature. Coloration is generally a mix of mottled oranges, greens, and iridescent blues arranged in slashed patterns across the body.

Thick Lipped Gouramis grow to a size of 3.5 inches, and may be kept in small groups in tanks of 20 gallons or more. They're one of the most peaceful of the gourami species, and may be kept with other fish of similar temperament without issues. It's important to provide plenty of cover in the form of plants or rocks, otherwise these fish may become skittish and hide, otherwise they make a very hardy and trouble free addition to any tank. Mature males can be differentiated from females by their larger size and more vibrant coloration.

Thick Lipped Gouramis aren't picky eaters, and will readily accept most prepared or live foods.
