The Red Leg Hermit is a staple clean up crew member in the marine aquarium hobby. They stay small, specializing in getting into tight crevices to remove uneaten food and algae. They not only make a great cleaner, but they're fun to watch as they clumsily amble around the aquarium.

Care

The Red Leg Hermit stays small, growing to about an inch in length, and can be kept in an aquarium of any size. Like all inverts, they cannot tolerate copper, and are sensitive to sudden changes in parameters, so a drip acclimation is important. They should be provided with a some empty snail shells to change into as they grow to discourage them from killing your snails.

Diet

Red Leg Hermits are omnivorous scavengers, and will eat any uneaten food or algae they can find. They don't need to be fed directly, a should thrive just by hunting for scraps and algae.
